Thank you. I’ll take your suggestion about PSE 19 trial. I’m not optimistic. Carl

There was a series of posts about a year ago and my recent one of the last few days. I can not get any of those suggestions to work for me. And, if it is a matter of making sure all the file types are synchronized, it probably is easier for me to export to the desktop and then reimport into Photos. If anyone here has a simple workflow that works I would like to see it. If not well???
Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

I have PSE 15, a new iPhone Xs, and late 2016 MacBook Pro with Mojave, Photos and the External Photos Editor. I just now have time to do more editing of old photos I'm getting ready to pass on to my children and grandchildren over past 40 years. I have the same problem as always. I can get my photos to open in PSE from Photos through the External Editor usually easily, but can't get them back into Photos directly. I have to save somewhere and re-import them.
1) Is there a link to a post on this web site that can tell me how to do this? I know there can be a problem with the file type (jpg, jpeg, PSD maybe others) but it there is a way to solve this easily I have never understood it.
2) Is it any easier to transport photos with the newer PSE 18 or 19. I'm perfectly willing to upgrade if so.
Thanks

I'm starting to get a handle on PSE 15 and it's stimulated my interest in RAW. If there is a summary of what needs to be done with an iPhone 7+ including which, if any, additional app is needed, shooting in RAW, and then transferring into a MacBook Pro with High Sierra, then Photos(if needed), and then PSE Editor(no PSE Organizer ) I can't find it. If someone could refer me to an article or other info on what has to happen to get to the editing in RAW in PSE 15 in a total Apple system I would appreciate it.
Thank you

OK. Many Thanks! I have't gone anywhere. Just trying out stuff. I think some of my problems were that I wasn't used to the multiple steps needed before selecting. I may not have had the right image, right tool, right new vs. add vs. subtract, or right layer. The more I do the easier that is becoming. Am also working through the Kelby book and that's going pretty well. I do have two things I have not seen any reference to that I could use some help. 1) I have to go through several steps in Photos to get the image open in PSE 15, then save or save as to the desktop, then drag the image from the desktop back to Photos for the round trip. I really don't want to use the PSE 15 Organizer as I have spent some time with Photos getting things like I want. Is there any easier or quicker way to get images from Photos to PSE 15 and back? 2) Some times, when working with two or more images at the same time in PSE 15, they merge together when I don't want them to and then can't get them back apart. A) How can I prevent that from happening, and B) can I get them back separate by some method. I can't find by using the revert icon or history window to get them apart again. I have had to delete the combined image, go back to Photos and re-import both images again. Very frustrating and time consuming! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ! Carl

Thank you for responding.
I have an image of our son and wife. I copied the background layer and on that copy selected the background in the image and then blurred it. I copied that layer and have three selected areas on the wife's face on this third layer and am now stuck. I have the option of "Add to Selection" on but can not add to the selection with the lasso tool, poly lasso tool, or refine edge. What ever I draw immediately disappears. Holding the shift key doesn't help.
If it matters I can click the eye on all the layers so they are all invisible and the three selected areas still show with the marching ants on the blank checkered image but none of image is there.
Not sure what you mean by "Use tools to make selections" How else could or would I other than by clicking on their icon in the column on the left.
I took a screen shot of all this and tried to copy here but it didn't take. Is there some way of adding screen shots to the messages?
I looked up the class you recommended. Looks like Lyndia. Do you know-do they have help for me when I get stuck like I am now? I am not using the Organizer as I am so used to Photos. I add my images from Photos to PSE. Don't know if that matters or not. Is there a way to be notified by email if anyone responds to this post? I could't find how to activate it if It is here.
I was involved with PSE 1, 2, and 3 when they first came out just after turn of century if I remember correctly and was a beta tester for 2 and 3. I'll describe my experience further if any are interested. My friend from then, Barbara Brundage, referred me here. She says there are some of the people from then on this site now. If so I would appreciate it if you identify yourselves. Would like to re-acquaint. Thanks Carl

I am making a selection. I try to use the Refine tools, I chose "add to" selection, I can expand the selection, but it doesn't take. The selection pops back to the one I originally had. The PSE Dummies book does not discuss this as far as I can see. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Don't know if important, but the overall image has had one selection made and blur applied to background and then deselected. I am now trying to select a face for further editing. I made the first face selection with polygonal lasso tool.
I have watched a lot of videos on YouTube about doing these things (editing portraits) and never seen this problem or heard it discussed. Does anybody have a video course on learning PSE 15 on an Apple computer they recommend? I have tried to follow along with several-many videos downloading the images they provide and almost always get to a point where I don't get the same result as is shown in the video(same problem when trying to duplicate an edit described in one of the books on PSE 15). I am perfectly happy to pay some money, but I want the assurance I can get some help from the author when I get stuck.
I described my equipment and think I did it correctly.
Thanks

I'm new so if I am not in the right place or right format let me know. The other day I used the Text Tool and seemed to go well.I'm trying to use it tonight. I've selected the horizontal type tool and increased the fonts both to 72 but the text is tiny no matter what I do. Why can I not make late text?
Thanks
