Regarding your pixels/points problem, you should be assigning your values in the Pixel Dimensions boxes. Looks like you're trying in the document Size boxes.

Also, go back to folder options | view, and make sure "hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

Clive- Try this:
Open Windows Explorer.
In the menu, choose Tools, then Folder Options.
Then choose view.
Under Hidden Files and folders, choose Show hidden files, folders and drives.
You should now be able to see your AppData folder under your Users folder.

As far as I know, flattening an image will not affect the opacity of any layers. So unless you reset it manually, it stayed at the lower opacity

An action could certainly accomplish what you want. I'm not aware of any that exist for that purpose, however. The full Photoshop program is required to create an action.
