I tend to check the 'New Posts' most days by (left) clicking on the 'New' icon, go to the thread, read the new posts, and then return to the 'New Posts' page by (left) clicking the 'back' arrow on my browser (Firefox v56) For a little while, it has been that sometimes I've had to click a few times to get back to the previous page and I have noticed that, if I Right clicked on the Back arrow at these times, I will see there are several 'pages' of the current page to click back through. This evening, it has been EVERY time I want to click back to previous page. I haven't tried this on my laptop or Linx (in fact, I've only just thought how I should have tried before posting ) but I will later this evening. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue on this site? I've only known this happen on PSE&M Thanks Julie

I use more than one browser to access this forum -- IE 11, Edge, Chrome, and Safari (iPhone). I have not had the problem you describe. The Back Arrow has always worked as it should. You said you are using Firefox. There have been many reports of this problem with the Back Arrow when using this browser. Also, it looks like this happens on some sites but not on others. Here is one of the reports -- Back button not working.
You may want to try their suggestion. -- Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

When you use the back button in your browser you are presented with the very same page as before, so that the thread you just read will still be flagged as NEW. Try this instead: After reading the new posts in a thread, click the New Posts button. This will regenerate the list of new posts, and the ones that you have read will no longer have the red NEW button on the left. In some cases serious lags have been reported using a browser's back button; if you click it more than once you thinking it wasn't sensed, you could end up going back several pages.

Incidentally, the right-button click you mention is normal behavior. It is showing you previous locations visited.
ETA: the only site I have ever had to double-click on the back arrow is the Huffington Post.

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. Sepiana, you never cease to amaze me with, not only your depth of knowledge and experience re Photoshop/Elements etc, but also such a wide field, including the different browsers Unlike me, you must have a tremendous memory and skills to organise/find stuff you're less sure of (if there is anything, that is) My memory seems to be disappearing like granules in hot water Ha Ha Ha I'll try refreshing Firefox but probably not until the weekend as I have rather a lot to do during the next couple of days and don't want my PC behaving any differently during that time Tom, many thanks for your suggestion re clicking New Posts rather than using the Back Button. I'll try that and see how I go. Unfortunately, habits are hard to break and I've always used the Back Button since I started using computers The other alternative would be to right-click and click on the (previous) page I want to go back to. Thanks, also, Major Major. In my experience, the 'normal' behaviour of the right click on the Back Button is, as you say, showing the list of the previous pages - plural. However, in this instance, the pages listed include a number of duplications of the page I want to leave. Hopefully, I'll be able to insert a photo here which will show you what I mean. ... and it is NOT normal behaviour There are FOUR incidents of each of the pages I have just been to but I've only been to the page once, by clicking on the title of the thread. Currently, it's not a huge issue and I am considering a fresh install of Windows 10 soon, which should sort it out, but I do like to find a reason for these 'strange' things when possible. So, thanks again. I'll try different ways of going back to a previous page and then will try as per in the articles that Sepiana has linked

Julie -
Can't explain the multiple posts things, but I would advise you to think carefully about a reset of Firefox, especially if you use a number of plug-ins/add-ons or have done any amount of customization - all that goes away.

Craig, excellent point to highlight! Glad you brought it up. Resetting a browser will restore its default settings. So far, the only browser I have had to reset has been IE. I keep a list of the customizations I have made, for example, security settings, privacy settings, cookie handing, disabled/enabled add-ons, etc. This helps putting everything back the way I like.

Sepiana -
Yup. The first (and only!) time I reset Firefox, on the "advice" of some tech support person, it took me way too long to get things back to where they were. Never again!

Yes, I definitely agree with you both, MM and Sepiana. This is one of the reasons I've not reset Firefox and why I mentioned I might do it at the weekend, once I've got other important stuff out of the way, which I now have However, if you save your profile into a different file then, if you don't like the reset etc, you can just replace your Profile file Fortunately, I don't use too much in the way of Addins and customisations (apart from getting the tabs below the Bookmarks etc). I wouldn't want to lose my Bookmarks though, which are, as far as I know, stored within the Profile folder too I've just come on to PSE&M forum this evening, looked in on a thread then Right clicked to see how many instances of that page and found only the one!!! So, I wonder if yesterday was just a glitch or have I just started off lucky? Time will tell. Having just done a clean, new install of Windows 10 on laptop (with Dell's help) and then I did the same to my little Linx 2 in 1 so my PC will be next on the agenda so will then probably have FF v57, now that I've tried ReminderFox in Thunderbird, as it isn't compatible with v57 and, it seems, never will be unless a helpful softie decides to write the necessary code etc. Anyway, must go as busy again this evening. Many thanks for all your help and advice. You're all so brilliant Julie

Just FYI, you can back up a copy of your bookmarks by going to Bookmarks | Show All Bookmarks | Import and Backup. Kind of handy.

Julie - Just FYI, you can back up a copy of your bookmarks by going to Bookmarks | Show All Bookmarks | Import and Backup. Kind of handy. Fantastic tip, Major Major I've never come across that before and not noticed it. I've now backed up my Bookmarks and will try to import into Firefox 57 on my laptop. That would be excellent if that transferred them over. Many thanks J

You're welcome, Julie. You can get them over to your laptop by going to the same area and choosing Import.
