I think Clive has hit on what has happened, it must have been scanned at 300 resolution but from a poor printed copy. The original (I've changed the name of the file) claims to be 760 x 1008 px at 300 resolution. I'd had a try with Elements but couldn't make an improvement so will bight the bullet and ask for another photo. Fortunately she's a friend of a friend so I can rope them in to take a decent photo with a decent camera.
Thanks for your help Clive and Helen.

I've been sent this photo to use in a poster advertising a talk. Although it is 300dpi it is appallingly pixelated. Is there anything I can do to make it acceptable or do I have to go back to the originator and ask for a better copy?
It doesn't look like I've got the hang of posting a photo either.
Edit to say that much to my surprise it worked!

It appears that in 2008 I created a slideshow via the Organiser. I would like to delete the slideshow but not the photographs. Is there a way to do this and not lose the pictures, or are they copies of the originals therefore it doesn't matter? All I can find is how to convert the slideshow to my current version - when I do this the pictures are black and white whereas the originals are colour.

Thanks so much. I've done it. I ended up copying the version I had in Elements 2020 into 2022 and then clicked on it to run it. Clicking it was the stage I'd been missing out. Once I'd done that all is well.
Please don't delete this thread as I shall need it again the next time I update Elements. It's easier to find it on here than copy the information into a 'safe place' on my computer!
I really need to look further into plug-ins, I'm sure I'm missing out on lots of goodies by just sticking to the basics.

Thanks for your suggestions Buckskin. I'll have a go at all of them just so that I know what's what. I do have Irfanview on my computer but that won't open a webp file. I'll leave it now until tomorrow morning in the hope that my functioning braincells are refreshed and raring to go!

I've come unstuck with opening webp files in Elements 2022 as I'd installed the plug-in in an earlier version, so I went to the thread in Adobe Forums to download it again. But it is no longer there. I must have it on my computer somewhere but don't know where to look for it so that I can install it in my current Editor. As it is such a common format I'd have thought Adobe would have included the option in their latest version - but apparently not.

To do that I would crop the element of the photo I needed; save it with a fresh name. Create a new blank file in the size and resolution I need; then place the cropped image (or drag it from the Photo Bin; grab a corner of the image to fit it into the new blank file; save again. It seems to work for me but I haven't tried it with 200% increase. I think the cropped image becomes a smart object. Or have I got that completely wrong and just been lucky?

Thank you very much for both of your recommendations. I shall use each one and work out which system I feel most happy with. I've just deleted over 1,000 photos from today's work and have just finished with 2019 having started at 2022 - there's still a long long way to go so plenty of options to practice on. I'm horrified at the number of near duplications I have however from a distance I am able to make a choice and cull the rejections with my head rather than keep them all, which is what my heart keeps telling me to do.

I have 44,400 photos in my Catalogue, all jpegs, the majority of them stored on an external drive. Every one is catalogued via the Organiser. I am looking at each individual photo and deciding whether to keep or delete it. Apart from those in 2021 the others are in year folders on the external drive. I'm using the My Folders column to the left of the Organiser to find the photo by date order within the year's folder. It worked well on the C:Drive but now that I'm working on the external drive and decide to delete a photo I generally find (not every time) that the organiser goes back to the last photo of the year so I have to scroll back to find where I was up to. When it works well and just goes back to the previous photo I've done precisely the same actions as when it doesn't. I can't fathom why this is the case.
My second associated problem is: Occasionally I decide a photo needs editing so do that in the Editor, saving after editing and specifying that the saved version should replace the earlier version. I go back to the Organiser and find that the original version is still visible. I'd assumed it was just a computer delay due to the external drive but all edited files are visible in a duplicate year folder ie I have two 2019 folders according to My Folders. I can't move these edited photos back into the correct folder (where the original version is still visible). The second 'folder' seems to be a phantom one as it isn't visible through File Explorer. I suppose it doesn't really matter but I do like everything to be ordered, hence using the Organiser since 2003 when I first purchased it.
Any advice or explanation welcomed.

Curious, do you only back up once every year; or, is this a migration thing ? I know what you mean about remembering how you accomplished something; many times, I know that I did something very handy and useful; and, I can't for the life of me remember just how I went about it. The moving process is an annual event, meaning that I only keep last year and this year's photos on my C: drive, everything else is moved on to an external drive. (Not that I've taken as many photos during the last two years due to Covid travel restrictions in the UK.
My back up process is completely separate with a complete back-up annually (it takes hours, usually overnight unless the computer 'goes to sleep') follow by incremental backups - all through Organizer. We also have a daily backup of everything on the computer on to a different external drive.
Annually I go through my photos trying to purge duplicates or similar pictures - but that isn't very successful as I can always come up with a reason not to delete a picture.
The rest of your conversation, BuckSkin with MichelB has gone completely over my head.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've moved all my 2020 photos onto the external drive in between cooking tea - it's so quick compared with the method I've been using for forever. Now all I need to do is remember for next year.

Thank you Michel, Yes I'm on Windows 10 and will certainly have a go at your recommendation. I'd assumed that the 'move to removable drive' was the 'best' method. But yours sounds more straight-forward. I'll have a go (after tea) and report back.

Thank you for your recommendation but I need to do it in Organizer so that Organizer can keep tabs on where my photos are stored. I have over 45,000 photos all kept trace of via the Organizer and I can find any one of them within a few seconds. I started using the Organizer in 2004 and have found it invaluable. I've just tried again and managed to move the 113 files in December; I went to move the 50 in November and got the error message again. I'm now off to see whether closing and opening the Organizer between moves resolves my problem.
Edit to say that you sneaked in when I wasn't looking Sepiana. Happy New Year to you too and thank you for passing my problem on.
When I went back to try again to move the November pix - up popped the error message.

I've done this many times before but now that I am attempting to move the photos I took in 2020 to a removable drive I keep getting an error message and the Organizer closes down.
I open the 'My Folders' Panel on the left-hand side of the Organizer and click on the photos on my C drive in the Dec 2020 folder;
go to File and click 'Copy/Move to removable Drive';
Click 'yes' when it asks if I'm sure;
then I get 'Elements Organizer has encountered a problem and needs to close' and it does just that.
I am currently trying to move 113 photos off my C: to an external drive (there are move but currently in different monthly folders). I have 1 TB of space on the destination I: Drive so I don't think the external drive is too full although, when the Organizer closes down, I haven't even told it where to move the file to.
Have I missed a stage? I have already made a folder on the I: Drive called 2020 into which I want to insert the files.
