Thanks to everyone who participated in editing this difficult to work with image. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of creative approaches used. It was hard to single out just three for special mention, but here we go (in no particular order): Helen's persistence paid off with her final "painted look" edit that captured a nice balance of the receding background mountains in muted tones and colors that did not overwhelm the brighter and more colorful foreground island village. I liked Tonyw's first crop since it clearly draws the viewer's attention to the island and it's two main buildings, while keeping a sufficient amount of background mountains within the crop frame to provide environmental context. Of BillieJean's creative edits I am most fond of her minimalist sketch interpretation. Her interesting technique and tastefully applied use of masks and brushes at various opacities produced a visually pleasing result which still captured the essence of my original photo. Thanks again to all you folks for taking up the challenge, and special thanks to Helen for inviting me to submit an image for your editing consideration.

I'm glad the timely question was asked, thanks to blackmutt. Since early Windows days, I've often waited for 6 months to a year before updating to the newest OS from Microsoft. This shakedown period usually identifies and resolves unforeseen issues with drivers and other problems for peripherals and software apps no longer working. My newest laptop is eligible as is for the upgrade from Win10, But I'm holding off until the last quarter of this year at the earliest.

There's more ways than one in editing an image. So I thought I would try this: ⦁ took a screen shot of the jpg version & opened it in PS2022 ⦁ Adjusted white balance using eye dropper on white? shirt & wall ⦁ Tweaked the white settings in NIK CE4 White Neutralizer filter ⦁ Created a new stamped layer (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E) on top of layer stack ⦁ Removed shadows on the walls behind the two fellows using the clone stamp tool set to current layer and below only. ⦁ Similarly removed the shadows on the upper right arm of the guitar player and on the bed under the chin of the boy. And the result is this: I believe making the stamped layer after adjusting the white balance solved the problem of preventing any unexpected return to earlier adjustments.

Thank you for your comments. I took that shot last winter. This year the bird bath is completely under a snow drift! I hope the snowfall is not as bad in your area of Alberta.
