Funny thing - downloaded a bunch of new sunset skies today that came with a PS update and 10 mins ago I look out of the window and had to grab the camera and got this shot. Sunsets recently have been pretty blah but not tonight! Tony

I'll start this off with a couple of subjects that I pass by regularly and which made me think of the theme - today I stopped to photograph them. Both abandoned pieces of farm equipment by the side of the road - seems a rather common sight around here. First is a IH 170 Windrower/Swather - probably around 50 years old and the second a tractor of unknown origin or age (recognize it anyone?). One confession - a dull day so I sky replaced both and, as I was figuring out how to add and use the new sky packs that came with the latest update of Photoshop, these were PS skies and not ones of mine. While hurricane Henri mostly passed us by, we had some beautiful steely blue skies today. This is an image taken with my phone this morning showing the clouds to the north. Great shot and did wonder about you and Henri today. Glad to hear he passed you by ...

Driving along a very quiet country road on a very hot day today but couldn't resist stopping at this road stand business for a pic. One of the kids has a problem with spelling and getting 5 the right way round. Tony

Staying with the wildlife theme I was passing the White Squirrel Golf Club today and spotted one. And yes we really do have a colony of white squirrels locally but they are elusive and this one was easier to spot: Tony

Thought I better get a shot of one of the many orioles we've had around this year before they head south. The food remains on his beak are probably one of the oranges put out for them or one of my orange tomatoes (not put out for them!) Tony

French fries and ketchup on a park bench. Thanks for the snack Sepiana, Dennis, Brenda, and Matthew! Nice pic Bill but I can't help posting that French Fries (aka Chips) have to be one of the things that have the most other things that go together - just depends on where you live and surprisingly there's even a Wiki about it: List of accompaniments to french fries. I was brought up on vinegar, spent a short time on mayonnaise, a few years on ketchup, now on gravy and poutine is pretty common especially in Quebec. Tony

I'll go for another bumper year - in this case winged sugar maple seeds or samara. The shady sugar maple we like to sit under is covered in winged seeds this year for the first time and apparently that happens in cycles of around 5 years Tony

I went for a critter today. When I saw this cicada on the balcony I grabbed my phone and shot him through the glass door. Then I wondered if I could actually go out on the balcony....which I did and took several close-up shots. However, looking at them on the computer they weren't very clear. So quickly run to the balcony....he's still there. Grab my camera....the 70-350 lens is on.....can't get far enough away to get the focus right. Open in PS.....GRRRR. Run to the balcony to look again.......too late lady, I'm outa here. I gave you plenty of chances to get it right! I am posting two. If you look carefully you will see that his mouth is open in the bottom shot. Annual CicadaVery nice critters - a bumper year here for cicadas although I rarely ever see one - just hear them! After spending 17 years underground they get to spend a couple of years out in the open. Our cicada killer must be having a good time with lots around!

I am glad you are enjoying the video. I thought it was a fun share. It was very clever how he used the boardwalk to steady his phone. I would assume that the end results included combining the images in photoshop/PE.....or some other program that would allow him to create the composite. That is something for someone with more sophisticated skills than mine to figure out. That looks like fun. I assumed it wasn’t done as a composite. As phone cameras have such short focal lengths the depth of field is huge so it would be possible I think to create those images with a single shot if things were perfectly lined up. I do suspect though that they shot video and then picked out the best frame. Tony

A really nice day for a change to add to my sky replacement collection (and the only dust spot I've found so far turned out to be on my screen : One more from today - this wasp was spotted on the oriole feeder. It's big (2") and my wife thought it might be a murder hornet. After getting the pic I'm pretty sure it's an Eastern Cicada Killer which, unlike the murder hornet are quite harmless (except to cicadas). They are quite rare in this area and so we rescued it from having fallen in the grape jelly and hope it survives to go hunt cicadas. Tony

A clever volunteer at our local museum has been working on restoring an old printing press that originally came from a long defunct local paper. Interestingly they 3-D printed some of the needed parts to get it working - so a bit of new in with the old. Was there today to see it in action in a small storage room (hence the other old stuff on the shelves) Tony
