Yes, I've done that - It's only a saving of a couple of clicks but I'm pleased to have it sorted (only taken about a year!)

Thanks so much - done it. Now all I've got to do is remember that they are there.

I know there is an easy way to get an Editor and/or Organizer icon on my desktop (Win 8.1) but I can't remember what it is or locate the instructions in the manual. At the moment I get both options up and then click whichever bit I want. Can anyone help please?

As no-one else has come up with a solution I've popped in to say that although I can't really help - I've never used the Places Tags. I've just made my own place names in the Keywords Tags - one for UK, another for Abroad, and another for Dorset (which is where I live). In each Keyword Tag I've made sub-categories as I've needed them. No irritating map getting in the way then.
Similarly I've never used automatic face identification - I decided that if I didn't know who I'd taken a photograph of then may be I should stop using a camera.
Personally I feel that recent updates of Elements try to force us into its way of working rather than allowing us to design a system which suits our own situation - and I fight that the best way I can.

I've never used the Places Tags (although I see that some have automatically been added when I've put someone else's photo into the Organiser). I stick to my old tried and tested method of Keyword Tags and Sub-Categories which I've been using since first buying Elements at version 3 (I think) - despite Adobe changing their name recent upgrades. The map is just intrusive (and always starts up in the USA and I live in the UK and generally holiday in Europe.) This way I can choose which tag(s) to use on every individual photo.
Would it be too difficult/time consuming to change your places tags to Keyword Tags - then you could name them any way you want?

I know I didn't ask the question but have certainly found the tutorial helpful. Thanks Sydney

Nope - even with no clicking just sort of hovering over the little square box nothing appears. Never mind, I can make the other methods work - which is good enough for me.
Thanks for all your help.

So many ways. I am going to have to extract the instructions from this thread and print them out - I'm never going to remember what to do the next time I need it. Thanks.

I can get to stage 2 with the above instructions but the drop-down menu doesn't appear when I'm holding down the alt key (it's there OK when not using Alt). I can see a little 'flash' which looks like the drop down menu but it doesn't stay in place. I have the alt key pressed and also the little square icon pressed with the mouse but there's no menu to slide down. However the other method works just fine and achieves what I need and your short cut combination works fine too - I just need to remember it.

Wow! Sepiana, that works! Thanks so much. I still can't get a drop down menu on the layers panel while pressing alt but that doesn't matter now that I know to do it on the menu bar. Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you - life keeps getting in the way of what I really want to do. Thanks to everyone else who has help me too. I'm now off to get on with what I was doing.

I tried that and got the drop down list, but no Stamp Visible layer was there. Will try again when I have a bit more time. Thanks for the suggestion PeteB.

Thank you Sepiana. I still can't get at the drop down menu it just won't drop down while I'm clicking the Alt Key - but the Ctrl-Shift-Alt-E sequence works for me. I hoped someone might know and I guessed it might be you.

I'm following a lesson on converting a photo into a Sketch. www.photoshopessentials.com/elements/8/photo-effects/portrait-to-sketch/But the instructions are for Elements 8 and I'm using 13. The instructions say: When I try to do this I can't get the drop down menu to function. I assume the routine has been altered since Version 8 - can anyone tell me what I should be doing please.

... to help each other past those head-slapper moments. I love that phrase - never heard it before but I will be using it regularly.
